I really didn't want to make a post about this, but I feel I have to now. If you have not already heard, Record Executive, Steve Stoute, took out a $40,000 ad in the NY Times to bash Arcade Fire and the Grammy's. The short version is that he feels hip-hop does not get the recognition it deserves....that and apparently this man thinks Justin Bieber deserved a Grammy (he doesn't). Anyway, Stoute claims that Bieber sold more records than Arcade Fire and therefore deserves the award over the indie rock band. I personally am very pleased that the little brat didn't walk away with anything and that true musicians Arcade Fire received album of the year. AF's manager recently spoke out saying that the band owns all the rights to their masters and are not necessarily a radio single band, but a live performance band. Once again, as a huge support of independent music, I support this and see this as a big 'Fuck You' to the man upstairs. It just goes to show you, no matter what you fat cats market, no matter what you decide is popular and what is dubbed a 'hit single' people will recognize real music. People will recognize talent and people will support that. You know I love hip-hop and you know I love indie rock, but things like this make me shake my head in disgust. Arcade Fire, keep the real music alive, Steve Stoute, go fuck yourself!
